Jazziz
John McLaughlin and Others…Innerviewed
October 2010
An interesting book came out on October 19. Titled Innerviews: Music Without Borders (subtitled Extraordinary Conversations with Extraordinary Musicians), it consists of 24 in-depth and revealing discussions that the book’s author, Anil Prasad, had with a stylistically wide-ranging array of musicians. Some of you may know Prasad as the founder of Innerviews, the Internet’s first and longest-running music magazine. In Innerviews: Music Without Borders, his first book, Prasad talks to jazzers such as McCoy Tyner, Victor Wooten, Ralph Towner, Stanley Clarke and John McLaughlin, as well as non-jazzers like Björk, Leo Kottke, Zakir Hussain, Ani DiFranco and others. The conversations are unusually intimate and candid, with the artists sharing their thoughts on the creative process, their careers and aspirations, today’s music business and other topics. Fascinating stuff.
